ANNOUNCEMENTS
Choral Chameleon concluded their second season with a thunderous standing ovation after the world premiere oratorio “Such Beautiful Things” was performed. The piece, written by Composer-In-Residence Jeffrey Parola, was praised as a “well constructed major work” with a “skillful” libretto by former Chameleon Tony Asaro and was based on the tale “The Traveling Musicians” by the The Brothers Grimm,. The tale tells the story of four animals considered useless by their owners who break free of their oppressive lives and travel down the road to the utopic Open Country. The Chameleons were augmented by four brilliant soloists performing the parts of the animals: Soprano Christina Borgioli, Mezzo-Soprano Colleen Coussinat, Tenor Kennan Vasudavan and Baritone Christopher DeVage.
Harry Saltzman of The New York Concert Review praised the group for their “pleasant sound, especially beautiful in soft homophonic passages” and “their fine intonation” and ability “to shape the musical lines so that they all have forward thrust and an expressive musical profile.”
The first half of the concert included “Three Choral Setting from Alice in Wonderland” by Irving Fine, “Five Childhood Lyrics” by John Rutter and the title piece “Hymns for the Amusement of Children” by Conrad Susa. The program’s central theme of music based on childhood fables, rhymes and tales aimed at adult listeners proved successful with a sold-out, happy audience.
Stay tuned for exciting news forthcoming about our third season and THANKS so much for all of your support!
