TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE $300 CARES ACT ADDITIONAL DEDUCTION IN 2020
Signed into law on March 27, 2020, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act ("CARES Act") includes provisions designed to encourage charitable contributions of cash. It allows taxpayers who do not itemize deductions on their federal income tax returns to receive a tax deduction of up to $300 for cash donations to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations during calendar year 2020, in addition to taking the "standard deduction" on their returns.
SUPPORT OUR COMMITMENT TO FIND A WAY TO SING TOGETHER DURING THIS TIME
WITH MUSIC & COLLABORATIONS THAT WILL LAST BEYOND IT
WITH MUSIC & COLLABORATIONS THAT WILL LAST BEYOND IT
Choral Chameleon entered the summer with an absolute artistic commitment to innovate - seeing so many performing groups all over the world going into effective hibernation, we decided we must double-down to create new art, now more than ever. This pandemic would be an inspiration for us, not a limitation.
So we spent months figuring out how to create new music safely. Virtual choirs - singing alone into your phone - wouldn't be enough. If people aren't singing together, in real time, balancing and feeding off one another, it doesn't sound the same. If we were going to make music this Season, we wanted it to last.
The route we have chosen is to make music in person at a high-end recording studio that has 4 completely separate booths. That means 4 people at a time can sing together, safely. We've been recording both our Chorus and our Ensemble like that, in quartets, and then are mixing them all together. The results are already phenomenal in their quality and warmth - I invite you to listen for yourself on Patreon.
It's also incredibly expensive - the studio costs hundreds of dollars per hour, and we need a lot of hours since we can only record 4 singers at a time and must leave the studio empty for an hour in between each session. The Chorus has over 40 singers physically participating in this process and we are continuing to pay our professional Ensemble singers.
This season we're also staying mission-focused by producing groundbreaking new art just like we did before Covid! We're combining our exquisite choral music with custom recipes for food and drinks inspired by the music to stimulate the senses during lockdown. And we've commissioned beautiful handmade rugs whose colors and texture you'll hear in sumptuous new recordings of us singing. Our food and design partnership with The Taste Curators is beautifully packaged via the medium of video, in collaboration with our supremely talented videographer Jacob McCoy.
We don't know what the future holds, but it could be another year or more before we're all back in the same room together.
Would you consider making a gift to sustain us during this difficult time?
With a donation, you'll be helping create more of Choral Chameleon's trademark beauty, love, and wonder... and lighting the path forward for other arts organizations in New York City and around the world.
Nicole Belmont, Executive Director

BUILDING ON TWELVE GROUND-BREAKING SEASONS
Choral Chameleon historically relies on a combination of revenues: ticket revenues from live performances/digital subscription, Chorus dues, grants and crucially, INDIVIDUAL GIVING.
Individual donor support is critical for us to continue our important and influential work in New York City and beyond.
This work includes:
Individual donor support is critical for us to continue our important and influential work in New York City and beyond.
This work includes:
- Preparation and Presentation of groundbreaking choral music programming, dealing with real human themes for real people that require exceptionally flexible and open-minded artists.
- Guaranteeing our audience will experience premieres of exciting new choral music in every season. We have commissioned, nurtured and produced OVER 180 WORLD PREMIERES since 2008 - an unprecedented number, and a major statement about the support of new concert music for voices! This is one of the key reasons why Choral Chameleon has been recognized nationally by the choral community in our winning of the Chorus America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming in 2015 and why founder Vince Peterson was awarded the Chorus America Louis Botto Award for Innovative Action and Entrepreneurial Zeal.
- Ability to offer year-long composer residencies.
- Freedom to explore secular contexts for choral music alongside the spiritual, to provoke reassessment of what a choral music concert can feel like, utilizing unexpected venues, videos and collaborations with other disciplines.
- Unparalleled educational experiences for emerging composers and conductors at our Summer Institute and providing guest conducting rotations. 81 composers and conductors have attended our Institute since 2010.
- Increasing awareness of important social issues in our shared community through the medium of ensemble singing.
- Promoting personal health and well-being through choral singing as a sustainable life-practice for avocational and professional singers alike.
- “Changing the Voice of Choral Music” on the modern concert scene, and claiming our American choral music heritage.
This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. The performance venues for Choral Chameleon are ADA-compliant and wheelchair accessible spaces.
